The Panchayat web series, released in 2020, gained massive popularity, and its characters and dialogues became widely loved. Despite this success, actor Durgesh Kumar, who played Bin Rakaas, has revealed that he is still struggling to find work. Even after his performance became a hit, he hasn’t received any calls from big production houses and has to personally approach casting directors to seek roles.
One of Durgesh’s most memorable dialogues from Panchayat, “Dekh Raha Hai Vinod,” became a viral meme and a part of popular culture. This line was so well-received that the makers even included it in the second season of the series.
Durgesh Kumar’s Struggles in Bollywood
In a recent interview with Times of India, Durgesh shared that he is currently working with small production houses that have recognized his talent. “It has been a tough journey for me. While people witnessed Panchayat’s success, the reality is that I am still struggling. Even after such a long career, I haven’t received a single call from a well-known production house in the last one-and-a-half years,” said Durgesh.
Despite being recognized for his performances, he still has to chase casting directors for roles. “I have worked in Panchayat and Highway, which were well-received. However, I am still not getting significant roles. Everyone in the industry knows me, yet I have no big opportunities. I am continuously auditioning, and while I do get selected for some roles, the process is highly unpredictable,” he added.
Lack of Recognition Despite Award-Winning Projects
Durgesh continued by expressing his disappointment at not receiving the recognition he expected. “People have loved my work, and the projects I have been a part of have won multiple awards. However, critics rarely mention my name, which is disappointing. I have been in the industry for over 25 years, yet I haven’t received the credit I deserve. But I am still happy that the audience supports me,” he stated.
His Recent Projects
Durgesh Kumar was recently seen in Laapataa Ladies, which was India’s official entry for the Oscars. He also played a role in Bhumi Pednekar’s movie Bhakshak. A former student of the National School of Drama, Durgesh gained recognition with Imtiaz Ali’s film Highway and later appeared in movies like Sultan, Sanju, and Dhadak. His portrayal in Panchayat made him a household name.
Despite his incredible performances, Durgesh Kumar continues to seek opportunities in the industry, hoping for the recognition and roles he rightfully deserves.
