# A.R. Murugadoss on Working with Superstars and His Upcoming Film “Sikandar” with Salman Khan
Renowned filmmaker A.R. Murugadoss, who has previously directed films starring Rajinikanth, Aamir Khan, Mahesh Babu, Vijay, and Chiranjeevi, is now gearing up for his next big release, *Sikandar*, featuring Bollywood superstar Salman Khan. Ahead of the film’s release, the director opened up in an interview with PTI about the challenges of working with superstars and how it impacts filmmaking.
## The Compromises of Working with Superstars
Murugadoss candidly shared that when working with big stars, a filmmaker can’t always stay entirely true to the script. He explained:
> “When you are working with superstars, you can’t be 100% honest with the script. We have to make compromises for the audience, fan base, and big opening numbers. It’s difficult to maintain complete creative integrity in such scenarios.”
Further elaborating, Murugadoss noted that every superstar he has worked with has one thing in common – their deep commitment to their fanbase.
## Superstars and Their Commitment to Their Stardom
The talented director observed that top actors are highly conscious of their stardom and work hard to maintain and strengthen it. He mentioned:
> “They want to keep their stardom strong and ensure it grows further. We, as filmmakers, should learn from this.”
## How *Sikandar* is Different from Salman Khan’s Previous Films
Talking about *Sikandar*, Murugadoss emphasized that the film is unique compared to Salman Khan’s past works. He revealed:
> “*Sikandar* is entirely different from Salman sir’s previous films. The story has unique elements, just like *Ghajini* had a beautiful love story. Similarly, *Sikandar* features a compelling love story between a husband and wife.”
## The Film’s Origins Rooted in *Holiday* (2014)
Murugadoss shared an interesting anecdote about how *Sikandar* was conceptualized. Back in 2014, while directing *Holiday* starring Akshay Kumar, he met Salman Khan on set. Murugadoss recalled:
> “During *Holiday*, Salman sir came to visit our set in Madh Island. I greeted him and expressed my desire to work with him. He responded that he also wanted to work with me.”
A few years later, Salman called Murugadoss regarding a Korean film remake, but the director declined, preferring to work on an original script instead.
## How *Sikandar* Came to Life
During the COVID-19 pandemic, producer Sajid Nadiadwala approached Murugadoss, asking if he had an interesting story for Salman Khan. When Murugadoss narrated the script of *Sikandar*, Nadiadwala immediately felt that Salman was the perfect choice for the role.
The narration took place at Salman Khan’s residence, Galaxy Apartments. Murugadoss recalled how Salman reacted after hearing the story:
> “After the narration, Salman sir stepped out, smoked a cigarette, and asked me, ‘I work from 2 PM to 2 AM. Does that work for you?’ That’s when I realized that he liked the story and wanted to do the film.”
## *Sikandar* Release Date and Star Cast
*Sikandar* is set to release on **30th March** and features an exciting ensemble cast including **Rashmika Mandanna, Sathyaraj, Sharman Joshi, and Prateik Babbar** alongside Salman Khan.
