# Shah Rukh Khan’s ‘Jawan’ Promotion Controversy: Journalist Calls It “Not a Press Conference”
Shah Rukh Khan’s film *Jawan* turned out to be the biggest film of his career, directed by Atlee. The movie broke numerous records and crossed the ₹1,100 crore mark at the box office. However, during the film’s promotion, SRK’s behavior towards the media drew criticism.
## Journalist Bharathi Pradhan Criticizes ‘Jawan’ Press Conference
Senior film journalist Bharathi Pradhan recently spoke about the *Jawan* press conference in an interview. She revealed that while media personnel were invited to the event, their questions were not taken, nor were they given priority seating near the stage.
For the past few years, a trend has been growing where certain actors conduct press conferences but allow only pre-approved questions to be asked. To control the narrative, celebrities tend to plant their own people or fans in the audience and provide them with selected questions via PR teams.
In an episode of *ANI Podcast with Smita Prakash*, Bharathi shared her experience, saying:
> *“If you are hosting such an event, don’t call it a press conference. I will never forgive Shah Rukh Khan for this. When ‘Jawan’ was releasing, he invited the media, but seated them separately from his fans. His own people and supporters occupied the front rows. He only accepted questions from them, while the media was left behind. Even approaching the stage was not allowed, as there was a divide. You cannot call such an event a press conference.”*
## Akshay Kumar Praised for Real Press Conferences
Contrasting SRK’s approach, Bharathi Pradhan praised Akshay Kumar for conducting proper media interactions. She specifically mentioned the *Sky Force* press conference, where Akshay openly responded to all questions.
The conversation further touched upon movie reviews, manipulated box office numbers, and paparazzi culture. Film journalist Komal Nahta also weighed in, stating:
> *“This has been happening for a long time. But now, block bookings are in trend. This is completely unethical. People believe it is a form of promotion, but I want to clarify—promotion won’t work unless the film is good.”*
## ‘Jawan’ Box Office Collection
Despite the controversy, *Jawan* was a massive commercial success. The movie earned ₹40.2 crore on its opening day at the Indian box office. The Hindi version alone collected ₹82.30 crore, while the worldwide gross collection was a staggering ₹1,160 crore.
